Accounting Services in Tacloban City

Accurate, timely, decision-ready books — kept by professionals so you can focus on running the business.

What the service covers

  • Bookkeeping. Recording of transactions in the books of accounts registered with the BIR, whether manual, loose-leaf or computerized.
  • Compilation of financial statements. Preparation of financial statements from your records under PSRS 4410 (Revised). A compilation carries no assurance, and the report says so.
  • Account reconciliations. Bank, receivable, payable, inventory, intercompany and tax accounts reconciled to their supporting records, with the reconciling items explained.
  • Internal accounting. The accounting function carried out for you on a continuing basis, for businesses without an in-house accountant or with a backlog to clear.

Standards that apply

Financial statements are prepared under the framework the entity is required to use: full PFRS, PFRS for SMEs, or PFRS for Small Entities, depending on its size and public accountability under SEC rules. Compilation engagements follow PSRS 4410 (Revised).

The books themselves are a legal requirement. Section 232 of the Tax Code requires every taxpayer to keep books of accounts from which the taxes due can be readily determined, and Section 235 requires them to be preserved for five years.

Who needs it

  • Micro, small and medium enterprises without a full-time accountant.
  • Businesses whose books have fallen behind and must be brought up to date before filing or audit.
  • Entities preparing for their first statutory audit or a loan application.
  • Newly registered businesses setting up their books and chart of accounts.
  • Owners who want monthly figures for decisions, not only year-end figures for filing.

How the work runs

  1. Set-up. We review the existing books, agree a chart of accounts, and fix the list of documents to be turned over each period.
  2. Monthly cycle. Documents are collected, transactions recorded, accounts reconciled, and the books closed.
  3. Reporting. You receive a trial balance and financial statements for the period, with schedules of the significant accounts.
  4. Year-end. The books are closed for the year and the financial statements prepared, ready for the annual income tax return and, where required, the statutory audit.

What you receive

  • A trial balance and general ledger for the period.
  • A statement of financial position and a statement of income, with comparative figures.
  • Reconciliations of cash in bank and of the other accounts agreed at set-up.
  • Schedules of receivables, payables and fixed assets.
  • A list of open items that need your decision or a missing document.

Books and tax returns

The figures in the books are the figures in the returns. Value-added tax or percentage tax, the withholding taxes and the quarterly and annual income tax returns are all drawn from the same records, so books that are closed on time are what make the filing dates in the AAC Tax Calendar achievable. Where the books and the returns already filed do not agree, we identify the difference and tell you what it means before the next return is due.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between bookkeeping and a compilation?

Bookkeeping is the recording of transactions through the year. A compilation is the engagement in which a professional accountant prepares financial statements from those records and issues a compilation report.

What do we send each month?

Sales invoices and official receipts issued, purchase invoices and receipts, bank statements, payroll summaries, and the tax returns filed and paid during the month.

Our books are several months behind. Can they be caught up?

Yes. We start from the last period that was properly closed, rebuild the records from the source documents and bank statements, and bring the books forward month by month.

Do you also prepare the tax returns?

Yes. Returns can be prepared from the same records under our Tax Services.

Can you work with the accounting system we already use?

Yes. We work with the system in place, and where none exists we help you select one and register it with the BIR.

Can the same firm audit the statements it compiled?

The Code of Ethics restricts an auditor from auditing its own work. Where a business needs both services, we assess the engagement before accepting it and tell you which one we can take.
